Intent:

As a result of learning this subject at TPA pupils will:

  • Be exposed to a range of language-rich text types, enabling them to use language appropriately and for a variety of purposes.
  • Develop their personal vocabularies and begin to evaluate author’s choices and intentions.
  • Learn to edit and revise their own language choices and others’. 

As a result of learning this subject at TPA pupils will:

  • Debate and explore a variety of issues and use writing as a medium to communicate and express their opinions, motives, and reflections. 
  • Respond critically, compassionately, and empathetically to high-quality texts across a range of subjects. 
  • Develop resilience as writers as well as share and present their work for an audience.

As a result of learning this subject at TPA pupils will:

  • Learn about influential writers’ and poets’ lives and work. 
  • Identify and apply a variety of grammatical features with appropriate terminology to use a range of techniques in their own writing. 
  • Learn and apply stage appropriate spelling rules and patterns across the curriculum.
