As part of our Anglo Saxon topic, Year 4 carried out an archaeological dig! The children had to use paintbrushes to delve through the sand and find the pieces of artifacts, before working in groups to put the puzzles together. Once they could see what the artifacts were, the children worked together to make suggestions for what they might have been, what they might have used them for, and what we can learn about life as an Anglo Saxon from this.

In another of our exciting topic lessons, we went orienteering round the playground. Using maps of the school grounds to help them, the children had to locate hidden cards with the names of Anglo-Saxon towns on, and a set of co-ordinates. Using these co-ordinates, the children then had to plot the town names on to a map of the UK to work out whereabouts they are. This helped them to see the lasting impact the Anglo Saxons had on our country.
