Image of Highlights from Year 4

This term Year 4 have been learning about how to protect the environment and oceans from plastic and pollution.  Taking inspiration from the climate change protests, Year 4 made signs and banners and marched through the school to create awareness about saving the oceans and planet. We then took some inspiration from Greta Thunberg’s climate change speech and wrote our own...

Climate Change Speech by Ethar - Year 4

Today I am here to talk to you about climate change. I think that we should take action. People are dying, people are suffering. This world is about to be extinct. As children, as adults, we should be taking action. We are the cause of this.  You cut down trees to make factories. Why do you not plant a seed?

I think that we should and need to start to work more on riding bikes and we need to plant more trees, not cut them down. Do not take long showers, take short ones. Do not throw your rubbish on the floor, throw it in the bins. If we all work together there is a chance that we can do it!

Some of us are doing the right thing, some of us aren’t. The people who aren’t are probably just sitting around doing nothing. We are all better than this. We can do it!

Here is a letter written by one of our Year 4 students encouraging parents to buy recycled carrier bags that we are making as part of our "Legacy" project in Topic.

Dear Mum and Dad,

Did you ever just want enough bags to carry everything? I know there are not many re-usable bags out there so I’m going to help you out. You see our topic has been about climate change and I want you to help save the world. For our Legacy project, we are going to make re-usable bags. We are going to sell them and we’re counting on you to help us do that. We will be selling our items after half term for around £3 and it will all go towards adopting a cute, cuddly class pet. We hope you are interested. Only give clean clothes that you don’t want. We hope you will help us and buy a bag.

Thank you!

Yours sincerely,

Deborah, Year 4
