The Year 3s went on an exciting trip to Forbury Gardens. After taking the bus into town, we made a short walk to the Gardens. Here we learnt about the history of the gardens and the Maiwand Lion which was built in 1884 and named after the Battle of Maiwand. The children enjoyed sketching the lion and put lots of detail into their drawings. After drawing and having a snack, we explored the Abbey Ruins and learnt about its history. The children enjoyed looking at the before pictures and comparing it with how the ruins look today. We then made our way back to the bus stop and headed back to school. Despite the forecast of rain, we were lucky enough to return to school dry. The Year 3’s were equipped with knowledge and experience of the Lion and Gardens and used this to write their own adventure stories about the Forbury Lion.
