Image of Highlights from Year 5

Year 5 have started the year with a smooth transition and have settled into the fast-paced routine quickly. It has been pleasing to see many children have a real love for learning, which is evident in our lessons.

Children have been focusing on their reading skills and have shown a great enthusiasm in lessons where they are able to learn strategies to help them understand texts.

We have also enjoyed our Topic and Science theme this term: Space. We visited the Winchester Space Museum, which allowed us to experiment with rockets and enjoy hands-on activities, which inspired many children to perhaps consider becoming an astronaut one day.

During Year 5, there are many opportunities for children to show us their team work and leadership skills; this was particularly evident when we visited Ufton Court and completed many tasks which required us to communicate as a team.

Our curriculum is bursting with fun-filled activities and recently we have been learning to play the glockenspiel and learning the lyrics to ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ during our music lessons. Some budding musicians are in the making and have even composed new beats to the song.

Year 5 is proving to be a year that holds many exciting opportunities and we are looking forward to learning as much as possible over the next few months.
