Last month, we were delighted to welcome Winter Olympic Gold Medalist, Amy Williams MBE to Palmer Academy. This visit was coordinated by Team Super Schools (TSS), an organisation set up by Olympic Champions, Jason Gardener MBE and Darren Campbell MBE; with the aim to inspire the next generation and promote active lifestyles. Pupils were delighted to take part in a sporting activity day where they completed four different exercises. They also enjoyed an inspiring assembly lead by Amy where she talked about her career and pupils were able to ask her questions. A particular highlight for pupils was the opportunity to have their photos taken with her.

Some of the pupils reflected on how much they enjoyed the experience saying:

Year 6 pupil - “It was an amazing experience to do the exercises and meet Amy Williams; I feel inspired by her achievements.”

Year 5 pupil - “It was an exciting day and it was interesting to see her skeleton equipment that she used in competition.”

Year 4 pupil - “I loved meeting Amy Williams as it was inspirational to meet a female Olympian.”

Dom Prendergast, Head of School said “It was fantastic to welcome Olympic gold medalist Amy Williams MBE to The Palmer Academy. Thank you for inspiring our pupils to have a dream & to work hard & collaborate to achieve that dream.”

Amy Williams MBE, tweeted - “Thanks for having me today @R2PalmerAcademy along with @TeamSuperSchool. Such a great bunch of enthusiastic children.”
