Maths Week kicked off with a workshop all about shapes. The children were asked to solve problems from various questions that were posed to them and using the materials given, they had to create 2D or 3D shapes. Although some of the activities were challenging, it was lovely to see the children thinking creatively and ‘outside of the box’ to solve the tricky problems. Maths week continued with some exciting time tables activities and games which were competed eagerly in groups. The children also got creative in the classroom by linking maths to art. Reception produced some colourful pop up 3D art. In year 2 children creatively used shapes to complete a picture. The Year 3’s drew city skylines using rulers and measurements to help them. The Year 5’s used patterns and circles to make interesting art work.

Throughout the week, daily maths questions were put up around the school for the children to answer. The children become excited about the questions which really got them thinking and working as a team to come to an answer. Some children even went home and shared the same question with their families!

Due to the snow day on Number day, we postponed it to the last day of school. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm of the children dressing up and the creative ideas they had put into their outfits. The day was spent playing number games in the classroom and fun was had by all. Number day raised £ 198.00 which will go towards the NSPCC. Thank you to all that made a donation.

During Maths week I also had to opportunity to walk into some of the classrooms and saw some great enthusiasm and learning about Maths happening. The Year 1’s have been linking Maths to their writing and showing different ways of representing numbers on their white boards. Over all it was a successful Maths week. Thank you to all the teachers and children for their effort and enthusiasm they put into Maths week and for inspiring each other daily to create a passion and love for Maths.
